PARIS – A French court ruled on Wednesday that Google remove nine photographs showing sadomasochistic relations of the former head of the International Automobile Federation Max Mosley.

Google will suspend the appearance of these photos on Google Images search engine.

These nine photos are part of a video and some were published in 2008 by the English magazine News of the World.

Several judicial decisions, both in France and Britain had already determined that the dissemination of these photos violated Mosley’s private life.

“This decision should concern all those who defend freedom of expression on the Internet,” said Daphne Keller , asked the question on Google. Google has said it will appeal the decision of the 17th Civil Chamber of the court of Paris.

The court ruled that the photos are taken within two months after the publication of the decision, and it does not re-appear in Google for five years, under penalty of a fine of 1,000 euros for failure found.

Google was also sentenced to pay one euro in damages to Mosley and 5000 euros for legal costs.

scandal broke in March 2008, when the News of the World magazine reported on its website a video showing Max Mosley with prostitutes dressed in uniforms, including a striped fabric, as in Nazi concentration camps.
