Victor Hugo Cardinali says he has documents Lions - iOnline

GNR seized today in the early afternoon the nine Lions Circo Victor Hugo Cardinali, installed since 29th November at Nations Park in Lisbon, for not having documents. The GNR admits that animals have the necessary papers, under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora Endangered Species (CITES), which are only registered in Spain and therefore did not serve in Portugal. “The information that reached us, the part of ICNF, is that animals must be registered in Portugal, despite being an international convention,” said Captain Fernando Alves.

Yolanda Cardinali adds the circus come to give input to a request from the former Institute for Nature Conservation and Biodiversity (ICNB), to legalize the animals in Portugal. The case was referred to the then Secretary of State for Forestry and Rural Development – which had the tutelage of ICNF – Daniel Campelo. “Everything was routed and the process almost completed, but in the meantime there was a change in government and never asked us for papers, we thought it was all settled,” said the daughter of the trainer.

In a statement issued today, the National Guard said that the animals were seized for failing to register. Now ICNF will sue to determine the infringement – Victor Hugo Cardinali may have to pay a fine. The minimum fine under the legislation in force, shall be EUR 38 500.
For now, the Lions are still in the circus, but can not be used in the shows. Official source of GNR i explained to the guard has no physical condition to welcome the nine lions, so Victor Hugo Cardinali was appointed trustee of the animals until they rectify the situation or until the process is completed ICNF.
